This Startup is Taking on OpenAI!

Mistral AI rises as Europe’s bold answer to OpenAI.
French startup Mistral AI, now valued at $14 billion, is growing fast with strong funding, global partnerships, and advanced AI models. Seen as France’s top AI hope, it stands as Europe’s main rival to U.S. dominance in artificial intelligence.
Le Chat reached 1 million downloads in just two weeks and now offers memory, multilingual reasoning, and advanced tools
Built a full model suite: Mistral Large 2, Devstral for coding, and Voxtral for audio
Backed by $1B+ funding, with deals across Microsoft, AFP, governments, and tech giants
This shows Europe can build world-class AI at scale, giving companies, governments, and citizens a strong alternative to U.S. tech giants. Its open-source strategy and rapid innovation put Mistral among the few non-American players shaping the future of AI.

Google’s Gemini AI flagged as unsafe for kids in new review
A new safety check says Gemini’s kid and teen versions are too close to the adult model, which may expose young users to risky content. Google pushed back but admitted its protections are not perfect.
Common Sense Media found Gemini’s youth tools only lightly filtered compared to the adult version
The AI can still give unsafe or inappropriate answers, even about mental health
Apple may add Gemini to Siri, which could increase teen exposure
