A team of researchers trained ChatGPT to control a spaceship in a simulation challenge, and it performed so well that it came in second place.

• Researchers gave ChatGPT the prompt: “You are a self-driving agent in charge of a spacecraft.”

• ChatGPT offered smart suggestions for steering and maneuvering the spacecraft.

• With just small adjustments, it was able to pass most of the test scenarios.

In the future, with more satellites and deeper space missions, real-time manual control won't be possible. We’ll need AI-powered autonomous systems. This study shows that large language models like ChatGPT can play a key role in the future of space exploration.
