AI co-pilot helps brain-computer interfaces read user intentions more effectively
UCLA engineers have created a wearable, noninvasive brain-computer interface (BCI) that uses AI as a co-pilot to interpret users’ intended actions. This system allows users, including people with paralysis, to control a robotic arm or computer cursor with greater speed and precision. The breakthrough could expand assistive technologies for those with movement limitations.
The AI-assisted BCI decodes brain signals from EEG and uses computer vision to predict user intent in real time.
Four participants tested the system, including one paralyzed individual who successfully moved blocks with a robotic arm using AI support.
Tasks were completed faster and more accurately with AI assistance, showing the system’s potential for practical use.
This innovation could provide new independence for people with paralysis or neurological conditions, offering a safer, noninvasive alternative to implanted BCI devices while making everyday tasks easier and more precise.

AI Enters Montana Robocall War

Montana’s political watchdog used AI to weigh in on GOP robocall fight
The Montana Commissioner of Political Practices relied on ChatGPT to draft an opinion about robocalls targeting veteran Republican Rep. Llew Jones, sparking debate inside the party. The AI response highlighted legal limits on regulating such calls, while also exposing gaps in campaign ad rules.
Robocalls and ads targeted Jones, portraying him as too close to Democrats, but voters said they weren’t swayed.
The Commissioner’s office revealed the legal advice came from AI, not staff, raising eyebrows.
New laws require oversight of government AI use, but Montana is still building out its system.
This case shows how artificial intelligence is already shaping political oversight in Montana, while highlighting loopholes in campaign finance rules and the deepening split inside the GOP ahead of the 2026 primaries.
